UPSC CDS Selection Procedure

The CDS selection procedure is a process to select eligible & deserving applicants to offer admission at various defense services. CDS is one of the most popular national level examinations across India. Many applicants apply for CDS to fulfill their dream of becoming a part of one of the most reputed sectors that is Defence Services. There are a few stages that applicants will have to go through in order to get selected finally for various posts in defense services such as INA, OTA, AFA & IMA. The details for the CDS selection procedure as follows.

Phases of CDS Selection Procedure

1. Written Examination- This is the first & foremost stage of CDS selection procedure 2017. The applicants will have to qualify in this stage to take part in the next stage of the selection procedure. The written examination consists of these subjects for the posts of INA, IFA & AFA.

  • Mathematics
  • GK
  • English

And for the post of OTA, these are the subjects that include-

  • GK
  • Elementary mathematics

The written examination is scheduled twice in a year. The question paper will have MCQ type questions. For OTA, the examination will have total 200 marks & for IMA, INA & AFA the examination will have a total of 300 marks per CDS selection procedure.

2. Personal Interview

  • The personal interview is the 2nd stage of the selection procedure of CDSE 2017 and only the qualified applicants of the written exam will be eligible to take part in this stage. This stage consists of various activities to shortlist the deserving applicants such as Group discussion, Group activities, Interview.
  • The applicants will be shortlisted for the next stage on the basis of their performance in these activities.

3. Documents Verification- The successful applicants of the personal interview will be called for documents verification stage. The selected applicants will have to show their relevant documents to the selection authority. The documents that need to be verified are-

  • Birth certificate
  • Identity proof (pan card/ adhar card/ voter ID card etc.)
  • Passport size photograph
  • Category certificate
  • Residence proof
  • All the qualification degrees 

4. Medical Examination- Medical examination is the final but very important stage of selection. In this stage, the applicants will be tested on their physical fitness. The applicants will have to qualify this final stage of selection procedure in order to get selected in CDSE 2017.

    • Is it true as kader said that those who have more then 70% in B.TECH then u r selected for direct interview, if yes then what is the process for it ??
