List of Defense Services Exams 2016-17

Defense Services Entrance Examination is held across India for the recruitment of candidates into army, navy and air force. Defense Services also termed as UPSC CDS (The Combined Defense Services) Examination because UPSC conduct CDS examination two times in a year. The qualified candidates then get appointed into various posts in Defense Services i.e. Navy, Army and Air Force.

  • N.A Examination (Indian Navy Artificer Apprentices Examination)
  • Indian Navy Sailors Matric Entry Recruitment Examination
  • TA Examination (Territorial Army Examination)
  • AFCAT (Air Force Combined Admission Test)
  • A.F Examination (IAF Airman Non-Tech Trades Examination
  • Indian Army Soldiers Nursing Assistant’s M.E.R Examination
  • Indian Navy Dockyard Apprentices Examination
  • IBPA/JIO Examination (Intelligence Bureau PA/JIO Examination

Notification for Defense Services Examinations

The CDS examination is scheduled to be held twice a year, once in the month of August and other on in the month of March.

  • Naval Academy– The applicant has to be a graduate in Science with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Engineering candidates can also apply for CDS examination. The age limit for the examination is from 19 to 22 years.
  • Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy– The applicants have to be degree holder from a recognized university or equivalent of any other degree. The age limit for the examination is from 19 to 24 years.
  • Air Force Academy– The applicant has to be a graduate in Science with Physics and/or Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Engineering candidates can also apply for CDS examination. The age limit for the examination is from 19 to 23 years.

Examination Pattern for Defense Services Examination

Air Force Academy and Indian Military Academy

  • MCQ type Written test of English (100 marks)
  • MCQ type written test of General Awareness (100 marks)
  • MCQ type written test of Elementary Mathematics (100 marks)

Officer’s Training Academy

  • MCQ type written test of English (100 marks)
  • MCQ type written test of General Awareness (100 marks)

Once the applicants have qualified the written examination, they will be called upon for personal interview. The total scores required to be qualified in written test is as follows-

  • Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy and Naval Academy are 300 marks.
  • Officer’s Training Academy is 200 marks.

      You can go ahead with National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Exams. Bright career opportunity for candidate like you at young age. You can also try for 10+2 (Technical Entry Scheme).

      Dear Hemanth, You can go ahead with Combined Defence Service Exams conducted by UPSC. If you wish to go for direct entry for Engineering graduates, you can apply for Technical Entry Scheme for final year engineers. Technical Entries are also open in Engineering branch of Indian Navy & Air Force.
