JEE Main is well-known engineering entrance exam in India conducted by CBSE for admission to B.Tech/ B.E. & B.Arch programmes. On the basis of JEE Main, candidates will be admitted to CFTIs, NITs, and other engineering institutions. Candidates who qualify JEE Main exam will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2019.  CBSE has introduced some new changes from 2017 like candidates should have Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI for filling the application form. Candidates seeking their career in engineering field can apply for JEE (for Joint Entrance Examination).

JEE Main 2019 Application Form

  • Mode of applying for JEE Main 2019 is via online mode
  • Application forms will get released in the first week of December 2018.
  • To apply for JEE Main, applicants should have Aadhaar Enrollment Number/ Aadhaar Number/Registration Number which will be provided by facilitation center.
  • Candidates have to fill personal & academic details, and also they need to upload scanned images of photograph and signature in prescribed format.
  • Candidates must download the acknowledgment page as the evidence of successful submission of JEE Main 2018 application form.

Eligibility Criteria


  • Candidate must fall on or after 01 October 1994 (for general candidates) and 01, October 1989 (for SC, ST and PwD category).
  • Relaxation of 5 years shall be offered in the upper age limit of SC/ST & PWD candidates (i.e. DOB must fall on or after 1st October 1989).


  • Qualifying Exam: It is necessary for the candidates to clear standard 12th examination/qualifying examination with the core 5 subjects in order to be eligible for JEE Main 2019.
  • Subjects: Candidates must qualify the intermediate standard with PCM subjects.
  • Qualifying marks: It is necessary for the students to acquire 75% in 12th examination(for general) and 65%(for SC/ST).
  • However, candidates have to secure the passing marks.
  • Passing Year: Those who had passed or appeared in the higher secondary examination in 2017 and 2018 will also eligible to apply.
  • Appearing Candidates: Appearing candidates i.e. candidates appearing in the final examination of 12th in 2019 can also fill the JEE Main application form.In case, if candidate appeared in the 12th examination in the year 2016 but haven’t qualified in 2016, passed in 2017 are also not eligible.
  • Diploma Holders: Diploma holders will be eligible to apply for JEE Main 2019 but only eligible for admission to IITs. That means they are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced but the scores of JEE Main score will not be taken into consideration for admission.

Number of Attempts:

Applicants can attempt at least 3 times for clearing the JEE Main. Attempts will be counted from the year 2018 onwards. JEE Advanced will be conducted twice in a year so attempts will be maximum 2 times in consecutive years.

  • Mode of payment would be through DR/CR card/E-challan.
  • Candidates making payment through E-challan have to make the payment in Syndicate/ HDFC/ICICI/ Canara Bank in cash.

JEE Main 2019 Exam Pattern

For JEE Main Paper-1

  • Course: Paper-1 is conducted for admission to Tech/ B.E. programmes.
  • Exam Mode: Conducted through offline (PBT) as well as online (CBT) It depend on the candidate’s preferences.
  • Subjects: The paper-1 will comprise of PCM subjects.
  • Number of Questions: Total questions 90 which carry of 360 marks.30 questions will be put on each subject.
  • Type of Questions: Objective
  • Language: Medium of the question paper will be in English & Hindi (except exam centre cities in Daman & Diu and Dadra, Gujarat, and Nagar Haveli where medium for question paper will be English, Hindi, and Gujarati). The choice for question paper must be decided while filling up the application form.
  • Exam Duration: The duration of the examination will be of 3 hours.
  • Marking Scheme: +4 marks will be awarded for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking:1 mark will be deducted for every wrong response.

For JEE Main Paper-2:

  • Course: Paper-2 is conducted for admission to Arch/B.Planning programme.
  • Exam Mode: Offline (PBT)
  • Number of Questions: 30 questions will be asked from Mathematics (Part-1), 50 questions in aptitude test (Part-2) and 2 questions in the drawing which comprises of total 390 marks.
  • Type of Questions: Mathematics and Aptitude test section will contain objective type questions and drawing test will be subjective in nature.
  • Language: Medium of the question paper will be in English & Hindi (except exam center cities in Daman & Diu and Dadra, Gujarat, and Nagar Haveli where medium for question paper will be English, Hindi, and Gujarati). JEE Main 2019 Admit card

  • JEE Main Admit card 2019 will get released through online mode by CBSE.
  • Admit card will be issued to the successfully registered candidates in the 2nd week of March 2019.

JEE Main 2019 Syllabus

The syllabus comprises of subjects related to PCM taught in 11th and 12th standard in any of the boards. Some questions related to aptitude and drawing will be asked as Paper-2 comprises of drawing, mathematics and aptitude test.

JEE Main 2019 Answer Key

Answer key for both the papers will get released in the 3rd week of April, 2019 which comprises of response sheets. Candidates who are unsatisfied with the answers answer key can challenge the answer key by paying Rs-1000/- per question.

JEE Main 2019 Result

  • The result of JEE Main 2019 will get disclosed in the last week of Apri 2018 via online mode.
  • Through the score secured by the candidates in the JEE Main exam, students can get an idea that whether they will be eligible for JEE Advanced or not.
  • All India Rank (AIR) will be considered for admission to IITs, IIITs, NITs, SFTIs, CFTIs, and many others.

JEE Main 2019 Counselling

  • JEE Main 2019 Counselling will be conducted by JoSAA/CSAB for admission to IITs/IIITs/ NITs and CFTIs.
  • Admission will be based on AIR and choices filled by the candidates.
  • It is mandatory for the candidates to participate in the counselling for seat allocation process.

How to Prepare for JEE Main 2019

It is better to start the preparation with NCERT books which help in forming the good conceptual base and are easy to understand and later start study from the important books given below.

Prepare According to the Syllabus

  • Both the papers are for different courses, therefore, the syllabus is also different for both.
  • JEE Main syllabus for Paper-1 contains important chapters from physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taught in the 11th and 12th standard of CBSE, ICSE, and other boards.
  • JEE Main syllabus for Paper-2 syllabus comprising of Mathematics, aptitude test, and drawing.
  • Candidates can download the detailed syllabus as it will be released by CBSE.

Keep in mind the Cut Off score

  • Students have to secure cut-off marks, in order to be eligible for JEE Advanced and for admission to top colleges.
  • Students can check the previous year’s cut-off marks.
  • In the academic year 2016-2017, JEE Main cut-off is as Gen category: 105, OBC: 70, SC: 50, ST: 44

Study Plan

  • Class 11th curriculum contributes to 45% of the JEE MAIN syllabus.
  • Class 12th curriculum constitutes to 55 % of the paper.
  • Incorporate your school studies and be consistent with studying.
  • As class after 10th curriculum is the syllabus for JEE, clarity in these 2 years of education will prepare you ideally for this examination.
  • Clarity in concepts and practices is key to attain good marks in JEE Main
