SSC CGL Selection Procedure 2020

SSC recruits’ candidates through various stages of the recruitment process. The SSC CGL Selection Procedure 2020 has been revised by SSC (Staff Selection Commission). The selection will be based on 4 Tier basis i.e. Tier-I (computer based), Tier-II (computer based), Tier-III (the descriptive test which includes data entry test and CPT test) and Tier IV (CPT/DEST). If the candidate successfully cleared the Tier I, II, III then only he/she will be appearing in the qualifying exam i.e. Tier-IV. The final selection would be according to the confirmed number of vacancies from the concerned Indenting Ministries/ Departments/ Offices/ Cadres before declaration of result. The SSC CGL Selection Procedure 2020 is given below in a detailed manner.

SSC CGL Selection Procedure 2020

  • SSC CGL exam is divided into four stages i.e. Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and finally Tier 4.
  • Candidates who qualify in Tier 1, will be eligible to appear in Tier 2.
  • Candidates who qualify in Tier 2, will be eligible to appear in both Tier 3 and Tier 4.
  • The Final merit of SSC CGL will be based on cumulative marks of Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3.
  • Tier 4 is of qualifying nature and mandatory for CSS/MEA/ Tax Assistant posts.

Tier I Pattern

  • Tier I will be a written test comprising objective multiple choice type questions (Computer-based test).
  • The duration of Tier I exam will be 60 Minutes (80 Minutes for disabled candidates).

Tier II Pattern

  • Tier II will also be a written test comprising objective multiple choice type questions (Computer-based test).
  • The duration of the Tier II exam will be 120 Minutes (160 Minutes for disabled candidates).

Tier III Pattern

  • Tier III will be a skill test/computer ability test.
  • Mode of Examination will be Pen and Paper mode.
  • There will be a Descriptive Paper in English or Hindi (Writing of Essay/ Precis/Letter/ Application etc.)
  • The Maximum Marks for this paper will be 100.
  • The duration of Tier I exam will be 60 Minutes (80 Minutes for disabled candidates).
  • The process of document verification is also conducted in this stage.

Tier IV Pattern

  • The Tier Iv will be of qualifying nature.
  • No marks of this stage will be added in the final merit list.
  • The Tier 2 qualified and Tier III appeared candidates (except for the post of AAO and Junior Statistical Officer) need to appear in SSC CGL Tier 4 Exam.
  • The candidate fails in CPT or DEST Test will not be considered for the respective posts.
  • Computer Proficiency Test (CPT): Assistant Section Officer (CSS), Assistant Section Officer (MEA), Assistant (GSI) in Ministry of Mines, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner), Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under M/o Corporate Affairs
  • DEST: Tax Assistant (CBDT & CBEC)

Resolution of Tie Cases

Tie cases in the SSC CGL Selection Procedure 2020 will be resolved by-

  1. DOB, the older candidate will gain a higher post
  2. Total marks obtained in the written examination
  3. Total marks obtained in Tier-I &Tier-II
  4. According to the alphabetic order in which the 1st name of the candidates appears.

  1. I am final year engineering student,I am not clear with the group “B” and group ” c” posts and pls anyone let me know what are all the posts I am eligible for as an engineering student.
