To encourage the students studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in science, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Government of India organized a programme called Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY), in the year 1999. The program aims to help in developing the best scientific talent for research & development in the country. There is a core committee that looks after its day to day and academic aspects of KVPY. The Department of Science and Technology has entrusted the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore with the complete responsibility of

  • Setting up a management committee and
  • Organizing and running the KVPY programme and
  • Setting up a National Advisory Committee (NAC) to look over its implementation.

Emoluments

Generous grants and fellowships are provided to the selected students (KVPY Fellows) up to the pre-Ph. D. level or 5 years whichever is earlier.

Eligibility Criteria

For Stream SA:

  • Candidates who studied in Class 11th (science stream) must apply for this exam and have passed class 10th with Mathematics & Science subjects & secure a minimum of 80% marks in aggregate (70% marks for SC/ST/PwD).

For Stream SB:

  • Candidates who enrolled in 1st year of the UG programme in Basic Science (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology) leading to B.Sc/BS/B.Math./B.Stat./MS/Int. M.Sc) can apply for this exam.
  • Candidates have to score at least 60% marks in the 10+2 examination (50% marks for SC/ST/PwD category).

For Stream SX:

  • Candidates, those studied in class 12th (science subjects) with Mathematics & Science subjects (PCB) can apply a scoring minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Science subjects (PCB) in Class 12th (50% for SC/ST/PwD).
  • Candidates also have to obtain at least 80% marks in aggregate in class 10th (70% marks for SC/ST/PwD).

KVPY 2023 Application Form

The application form should be filled in with personal and academic details, choosing the test centers. Candidates should upload the Photo, Signature, and other certificates as applicable. Candidates should also have to pay the application fee. The fee must be paid only at the KVPY portal. Once the payment is made successfully and the application submitted, the payment cannot be refunded.

  • The application fee can be paid through Credit Card /ATM Debit Card / Net Banking.
  • The application fee can also be paid by downloading challan from the application portal.
  • No other means of payment is acceptable.

Selection Process

  • On the basis of the performance in the KVPY Aptitude Test, candidates will be called for the selection procedure.
  • An interview round will be included in the selection process.
  • The interview round will be held in the month of January 2023.
  • Through email/website, the candidates will be informed about interview dates, time & venue.
  • The scholarship will be provided to the successful candidates, after the successful completion of the entrance exam & interview round.

Exam Pattern

  • The exam will be conducted through an online (computer-based test) mode.
  • The duration of the examination will be three hours.
  • The question paper will be of two sections: PART I & PART II having objective-type questions.
  • The exam will be conducted both in English & Hindi Language.
  • The question paper will be total of 100 marks.
  • In PART I, one mark will be given to the candidates for the correct answer and 0.25 marks will be deducted for incorrect answers.
  • In PART II, two marks will be awarded for each correct response and 0.5 marks will be deducted for the wrong response.

Admit Card

  • Admit Card will be issued by the exam conducting authority through online mode.
  • By using their “USER ID” & “Password”, candidates will get their Hall Ticket.
  • Candidates can download their admit cards from the month of October 2023.
  • The admit card contains the name of the candidate, roll number, exam center venue, exam date & time, category, etc.
